Is a cool brand name enough to make a clothing line a success?
Surely, achieving commercial success in fashion means commitment, hard work and patience. A cool brand name for a clothing label is necessary.. but not enough.
Nowadays a successful clothing line first is a celebrity clothing line. It's also a brand held by a company which owns a large distribution network or at least have access to a large number of retailers.
Successful brands in the news in 2010
Successful brand name we don't like: Uniqlo is a new-style Japanese firm making good casual clothes. They design, manufacture and sell their clothes in their own retail stores.
That brand name doesn't sound great until you think of it as unique clothes.
In my opinion a terrible brand name. This company is however becoming one of the big players in the fashion industry. So much that GAP is getting worried!
