The busiest shopping day of the year is an closely watched event in the apparel industry because it tells professionals if they've been right in their market predictions.. or not.

Online sales of clothing have done even better than last year and same (brick and mortar) stores are on the rise.
In these uncertain economic times, it looks as if the men and women in the street have decided to treat themselves with the latest fashion gear and accessories.

That's something we've been talking about in previous posts, the earlier you order your garments, the better the price.

Order Early and Get Double Discount:
And we are not even talking about the transportation cost for your clothes from Vietnam to your market. We are talking manufacturing price. If your order is urgent, the quotation may have to be recalculated in order to include the cost of mobilizing troops.

Therefore, when you order early, you lower the manufacturing cost as well as the transportation cost (because your garments are shipped by boat instead of sending them by plane).

The reason for this: Forums are sometimes made up by business owners to make a bad reputation to competitors.

It is the case in many industries and there is no such thing as independant opinion even in the fashion industry.

In line with the post dated Dec 2009 Sexy fashion models for Christmas I have been requested to come up with an article about Tila Tequila.

Guess what came up as soon as I typed Tequila in my favorite search engine:

I thought that's just too good to be true. All I had to do was to get a picture of the actress wearing sexy clothes and that would be it: Job done.

Is a cool brand name enough to make a clothing line a success?

Surely, achieving commercial success in fashion means commitment, hard work and patience. A cool brand name for a clothing label is necessary.. but not enough.

Nowadays a successful clothing line first is a celebrity clothing line. It's also a brand held by a company which owns a large distribution network or at least have access to a large number of retailers.

Successful brands in the news in 2010

Successful brand name we don't like: Uniqlo is a new-style Japanese firm making good casual clothes. They design, manufacture and sell their clothes in their own retail stores.

That brand name doesn't sound great until you think of it as unique clothes.

In my opinion a terrible brand name. This company is however becoming one of the big players in the fashion industry. So much that GAP is getting worried!

Gucci to continue Alexander McQueen's fashion label

The news just came out on CNN, Gucci will persevere with the McQueen clothing line. It's everywhere in the news, on the net, on TV and in the newspaper.

You call this news??

What a joke!

For anybody who's got a minimum of common sense between both ears and who understands business and clothing brand promotion it was OBVIOUS that Gucci would keep going with this famous clothing brand.

Of course the whole world mourns the sudden death of the designer, but let's keep it real: The huge publicity around the suicide of this artist just a few days before London fashion week can only serve the label's majority stakeholder Gucci Group.

Even though there is no information available about how profitable McQueen's 11 stores fashion house has been in the last few years. The French luxury brand Gucci Group is betting on the brand's success in 2010.

Strategically speaking, this is a risky decision because it will be difficult for the French clothing company to look good if they ever need to shut down the McQ operations. That would definitely make them look like they disrespect the now worldwide famous dead clothing designer.

Yesterday was a bank holiday in Vietnam to celebrate independence day. When the employees of Ellen Clothing Manufacturer were asked what this independence day was about, the answers were very confusing: independence from the French, from the American and from the Chinese.

Akoo clothing line by TI. Hip hop clothes.

At ECM we love Akoo clothing line by TI.

TI fashion line and the Real Deal clothing line that we are working on are in the same style. We like hip hop clothes.

Of course, the success of TI means an easier start for his clothing line.
Of course, everyone is not lucky as him when it comes to visibility in the media. So if you are in the hip hop clothing business, the best that can happen is getting the help of someone famous. Not easy.

What might be possible though, is having less famous singers or DJs to wear your brand. Who knows? They might one day get a lot of exposure which is great communication for your brand.

Now if you type Akoo clothing line on Google, you will see they are really cool clothes. You will also find out that the king of the south (south of the USA?) is not available right now as he is in jail!!

Do you think being in jail is a BAD thing for a hip hop singer? Yes, of course. It's got to be.
Do you think this means bad publicity for his brand? I don't think so.
In fact I am pretty sure that the fact that TI is in jail comforts his status of bad boy which is good for sales in this business.

Important note: If you are running a hip hop clothing line, I do NOT recommend that you end up in jail to promote your brand. I know it works for TI but I've got a feeling that this is not the best way to promote your clothing brand.
Or am I wrong? For my part I won't take the risk. Would you?

The new software will be tested by consultants and quotation people this month for release before the end of the year.
The first version looks like a calculator which provides the user with the cost of getting the custom clothes made.

User friendly: It's quite fun too use! was the first comment by production people in the office.
The full version allows to add various garments quotation in the basket.
